News
All small watercraft used or stored on the Great Harbors beachfront must have a Great Harbors sticker. This includes kayaks, dinghys, canoes etc. The purpose of this policy is for identification, safety, and ensuring the watercraft are the property of Great Harbors residents. The cost is a one time fee of $10.00 per watercraft and are limited to two per household, if stored on the beach. You may contact Jim Clayton at [email protected], should you have any questions.

November 2022
Dinghies and Watercraft
There is a new regulation which has been adopted by the Select Board prohibiting dinghies, kayaks, etc., on town property from November 16th to April 15th. Dinghies or other watercraft left on town property after November 15th will be considered abandoned and/or derelict and disposed of as required by the regulation. If you currently keep a dinghy on town property, be sure it is removed by the deadline. This regulation applies to town owned property only. For clarification purposes most of the shore on the west side of Great Pond including the areas on both sides of the Harrington Street Boat ramp are town owned. More information on this new regulation may be found on the town web site, Harbormaster Division.

March 2019
The docks consist of 44 slips and 4 tie-ups at the end of Sally Lane and Joyce Street. Maintenance items such as 2-inch piping was replaced with 3-inch piping and new rings with rollers were placed around the fiberglass pilings were installed in the past.
The Dock Masters, Chris Tomasini, Bill Lund , and Stan Caras along with the Docks’ Committee are pleased to announce the completion of Construction of 36 new docks slips for the Joyce Street section as replacement for the 27 years old slips. This after replacement of the 12 Sally Lane Docks in 2017.
The new much upgraded docks were delivered in March 2019 to our storage site in Great Harbors and will be installed in the water in early May 2019.
Special thanks to Rich Conlon our Finance Committee Chairman for his invaluable assistance along with our Board of Directors who voted unanimously to authorize construction and replacement for these new dock slips.
Great Harbors now has 48 Replacement Dock slips built to a very high standard which should last for a very long time

June 2017
2017 marked a year of significant investment in the Great Harbors docks. These floats had been in service since 1992, when Hurricane Bob had destroyed our docks. When we began the work of disassembly, it was clear that the internal components on the Sally floats were eroded and badly rusted, probably since these components are subject to more concentrated waves and wakes from boats going up the Coonamessett River.
The Dock Committee worked with the Great Harbors Board of Directors, to procure completely new docks for Sally Lane. The floats were built to exceed the high standard of the originals, and were completed ahead of schedule and on budget by the lowest of three bidders.
GHRA Dock Rules
ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS 06/17/06, AMENDED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS 12/19/12
1. In order to be eligible to rent a dock slip or to be eligible to be on the waiting list, an individual shall be the “lot owner of record” (see BYLAWS ARTICLE III, PARAGRAPH 1) in the subdivision known as Great Harbors. The “lot owner of record” and the boat owner must be the same person. If there is any question as to whether the individual is eligible the burden is solely on the individual seeking eligibility to provide the information and documentation necessary to resolve the matter.
1a. The dock slip rental contract will be offered to one individual who has been determined eligible to rent a slip. In the case where an eligible dock slip renter dies or becomes permanently incapacitated, his/her surviving spouse may petition the board for continued dock slip eligibility. The board shall not unreasonably withhold this approval. In no case shall subsequent generations assume current dock slip eligibility. If the BOD approves the spousal dock slip rental that person will have one year to update all documents and present them to the Dock Audit Committee, from the date of BOD approval.
1b. In order to rent a slip within GHRA, an individual dock slip renter must be named. The dock renter must be eligible per GHRA eligibility rules. The dock slip renter must be named as the owner on the title of the boat and the principal owner of the property within Great Harbors or in the case where the boat and/or property are owned by a trust the dock slip renter must be the principal owner of the property prior to the trust being formed, or, in the case where the property is held in a revocable trust, the dock slip renter will be named by the grantor of the trust, subject to board approval, or, in the case where the property is held in an irrevocable trust, the dock slip renter must be the same as the principle property resident, who will be named by the trustee, subject to board approval.
2. An individual in order to be able to rent a dock slip or be on the wait list must be a member in good standing, as stated in the Bylaws. In order to be a member in good standing, all dues and assessments must be current and paid in full.
3. In order to establish or maintain eligibility to rent a dock slip, the dock renter must provide a copy of the boat registration or documentation. Before the contract is accepted by GHRA, new and current renters will be required to provide proof of eligibility. Specific documents include: Insurance, Tax Bill (if owned by a Trust, additional supporting documentation required), and Registration/Documentation.
4. A dock slip renter must sign the GHRA agreement and abide by all terms of the rental agreement. All rental fees are due and payable by March 15 of the rental year. The dock renter shall also accurately complete the GHRA information sheet about the boat to be berthed in the assigned slip. Under no circumstances can any slips by sublet.
5. All dock slips are assigned at the discretion of the Dock Masters. All designated boats must be in their assigned slips by July 4th. Failure to do so may result in the loss of eligibility. A renter who is unable to have their boat in the assigned slip by July 4th may seek a waiver by presenting an explanation in writing for review by the Dock Administration Committee.
6. If there is a dock waiting list, dock slip rental eligibility is limited to one slip per household.
7. Any dock slip renter who violates the rules may lose their eligibility.
8. All dock slips are rented at the sole discretion of the GHRA. Continued eligibility requires continuous ownership. Although it is the policy of the GHRA that eligible dock slip renters will be offered the opportunity to rent their dock slip from year to year, the GHRA confers no property rights, either express or implied, to any dock slip renter.
9. The Board of Directors in consultation with the Dock Administration Committee shall resolve any issues regarding dock slip eligibility and dock rental. All eligibility issues regarding dock eligibility shall be resolved before the GHRA accepts a rental agreement from the individual. All eligibility issues regarding the dock wait list shall be resolved before the individual is put on the dock waiting list. Boat ownership is not required to be eligible to be on the wait list.
10. These rules can be amended at any time by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.
